What is the difference between a Scrub Tech and an Anaesthesia Tech?

Scrub Technician assist surgeons during operative procedures by preparing instruments, managing a sterile environment, efficiently handling equipment and upholding professional practices.

Anaesthesia Technicians support anaesthesiologists by managing anaesthesia equipment, medications, and patient monitoring devices.

How can I register for one of the programs?

Students are required to register online via our website. Once you have been shortlisted, applicants will be required to attend an interview as part of the admissions process before final selected for the program. Once the student is successful in the interview stage, they will be notified accordingly, and further information will be provided at this time on payment options and timetable.

When do I need to pay my registration fee?

The registration fee is due upon confirmation that you are successful at the interview stage and is now accepted to begin the program.

What is the duration of the program?

The program is a one (1) year comprehensive blended educational program with 9 months e-learning months with a 3-month apprenticeship period. During this apprenticeship period the student under supervision by the clinical instructor most independently scrub for several cases.

Is the program full time, part-time or both?

The program is part time with an adult learning concept. Each student must fulfill several contact hours. The Program timetable will be shared with students following orientation.

What is the program structure?

A mixture of classroom, clinical and online learning. Students must attend 80% of each. The program will be broken down into the following components for the delivery of course content and learning:

Virtual Learning – This will be facilitated over a 9-month period.  Courses and theoretical content will be delivered through a secure online learning platform that supports video lectures, discussion forums and digital assessments.

In-person Training – Contact hours will be facilitated over a 3-month period. Practical lab training will be conducted face-to-face at the hospital.

Clinical Rotations – This will provide real-world experience in various health care settings allowing students to apply their skills under the supervision of qualified professionals.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment will be a combination of written examinations, practical skills assessments, peer assessments and clinical evaluations.

To successfully complete the program, participants must attend 80% of classes and practicums and achieve at least 75% on a comprehensive final examination.

What type of certification would I get at the end?

At the end of the program, you would get a Certificate of Achievement in Scrub Technician or Anesthetic Technician, which would allow you to practice in any private hospital in Trinidad and Tobago.

Due to the program being so comprehensive it can be used as a launching pad to enter the Registered Nurse program.

What are the prerequisites for admission into the program?

  1. Students must be 17 years or older at the time of enrollment.
  2. A minimum of 3 CXC passes OR at least 2 years Clinical experience.

Are immunizations required?

Proof of vaccinations (e.g., Hepatitis B, Mantoux screen) is typically mandatory for clinical placements. Our hospital will support in getting (Mantoux screen).

What is the cost of the program?

  • Course Fee $12,000
  • Registration Fee $1,000

Do you offer a flexible payment plan?

YES. We offer 50% course fee payable in advance (non-refundable) and the balance must paid over the duration of the course period in 3 equal parts.

Does the program help with job placement?

No, not at this time.

Which program is more challenging?

Both require attention to detail, but Scrub Technicians focus on fast-paced surgical workflows, while Anaesthesia Technicians need strong pharmacology/equipment knowledge.

Will other programs be offered?

Of course, as we learn and grow, we will offer additional programs in the future.

Is the program accredited?

We are an internationally accredited institution however, the course is not yet accredited by ACTT. We have registered for the program to become accredited but assessment can only be done by ACTT during the program delivery.
